Games Help Calm People

‘The games help calm people’. This emerges from research of department of Ohio University. several studies have presented their own results on whether violent video games affect children negatively, but this study is the first we see the effects of the video games is positive. The Professor of communication and psychology of Ohio State University confirms it.

The first experiment

The survey took 150 students who were randomly selected and every one of them was in the habit of playing a game on Wi-Fi. For the calm category of the students, the game Endless Ocean was selected, to neutral category, the Super Mario Galaxy, and to the violent category, the game Resident Evil 4 was offered.

The purpose of the test was to see which players would play faster. It was declared that the winner will be rewarded with a sum of money, while the loser will be subjected to the decision of the winner. To make matters worse, each player could choose how much money it would take the winner, but how long would hear the annoying noise of the loser.

The results showed that students who played the violent video game the Resident Evil 4, tended to punish more losers, choosing to keep them for longer noise than the players who played the neutral ( SM Galaxy) or the quiet game (Endless Ocean). The crux of this investigation is that the students who played the calm videogame, tended to reward more than the opponent who were playing Resident Evil 4. The result of the first investigation was obvious: “The calm video games make people more polite and less aggressive.”

The second experiment

The second test was administered on 116 students different from the first test-students. The test was similar, but focused more on the result of quiet game. So, the students played the video games for 20 minutes and then were given a questionnaire to measure their mood. After finishing the questionnaire, the researcher announced to students that the experiment was finished, but asked for the help to the student scratching pencils for the next-supposed-experiment.

The unit of measurement was the number of pencils that each of the students scratched. So the result was that students who played the calm videogame (the Endless Ocean) chose to scrape more pencils than those who played the violent game. This is the significant difference in the first experiment.

The second was that at first the students did not need to make any effort to give more money to the winner. In the second test players had to do the effort and sacrifice their time to sharpening pencils.

From this, it was concluded that students who played the quiet game is reported to be in a better mood and happy in contrast to the sentiments expressed by those who played the violent game.

The results

So what is the substance? When a man is in a good mood (like playing a calm videogame), tends to help other people. Interesting is the fact that students experienced fun in playing all the games. The survey used three games, supposedly on the same level of quality (imagine the calm category in Endless Ocean was the best option, since “species” is limited), but it was also important that a not-AAA-game was decided by students as the “same fun” with the rest.

The result of research was that placid video games make people more helpful to one another. They definitely have some interest, but we all know that such games are rarely attract the attention of players and many times, regardless of their quality, bombarded with negative comments by them with ease.
Are we all in a bad mood? Start scratching.
