Rift 1.5 – Ashes Of History

The 1.5 version of the Rift, the MMORPG of Trion, was released to live servers a few days ago and has brought some significant changes with both new content and existing mechanisms. The overall objective of 1.5 Patch is to make the game more accessible to the casual players, i.e. to those who are not involved in Raids or Dungeons. Many people have noticed over time that the equipment from the dungeons and raids are good. There is a gap created between the organized players and more casual or open world players.

The second category players cannot stay for consecutive hours on the computer to complete a Raid instance or constant dungeons. They could never acquire sufficient equipment to participate in the “final content” of the Rift, ie Raids of the 10 to 20 people.

Open world events

This bridging came to make the upgraded open world events, namely the massive raid monsters. Now, those players involved in mass raids, can earn a very good deal from one particular currency, which can buy equipment that is equivalent to that of a good Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dungeons. Thus, even those players who do not belong to a large clan or people who simply do not care for Raids, can now become a standard. They can participate comfortably in most advanced game content, merely contributing to the daily Invasions of their own level.

Even the most advanced players can benefit from the new items purchased with that currency. Every day we see hundreds of players starting a massive raid on a region to deal with these objectives. The loot is now very satisfactory for all.

Chronicles of Telara

Similarly, with the upgrading of open world events, we have a new kind of dungeons, which are friendlier and specifically designed for “lighter” game play. The chronicles is essentially recreated Raid instances, which can now be accomplished by one or two players together. In this way the Trion wants to give the opportunity for more casual players to watch some of the history of the game and be able to see the important Raids (such as 20-player Raids in Hammerknel and Greenscale) without having to belong to a guild.

The Loot of 15 to 20 minutes (the duration is short just to be able to play those who spend many hours in the game) may not be as good as a normal Dungeon, but the rewards EXP and some rare “consumables” makes it necessary to participate even more advanced.

Planar Attunements

The Planar Attunements is essentially a way in which players who have reached the maximum level (50) can develop further the important stats of their character, without changing the Lv. This system is available in Lv 50 and continues to earn normal EXP points and “levels” with each new level and give them a few attunement-points to spend on them separately. The player chooses one of the 6 Planes (fire, water, air, etc.) of the skill trees to spend the points while the same skill trees are split into Tiers.

What we observe is that it takes too many levels to enable anyone to complete only the Tier 1, while the same upgrades seem to be more “psychological” in nature (to have the impression that the players continue their progress) rather than substantive. Probably the system is purposely so slow to upgrade. You do not have to change the actual Level Cap.

Master Dungeons

The 1.5 Patch brings content for more advanced players. There is added another degree of difficulty for the Dungeons. The same mechanisms of these raids dungeons have been changed to be more difficult. The Master Dungeons require the cooperation of five well-armed players who are familiar with difficult Raid mechanisms. Only one dungeon is available so far for Master degree of difficulty. One more is to be added soon.
